Licence, trial and your data
How the 14-day trial, the Gumroad key and the three-computer limit work — and what stays on your machine.
On this page
Your Gumroad key is used in two places, and it is the same key both times:
- On the platform, to unlock the download — see Getting started and Licences and paid tools.
- In the app, to license Spektra RF itself.
The trial
The trial starts on the first launch and lasts 14 days with every feature unlocked. What is left is shown in the sidebar.
When it runs out, Spektra RF switches to demo mode: you can still open it, look at the interface and use the synthetic spectrum, but real hardware is refused until a key is entered. Nothing you saved is deleted.
Activate
- After buying on Gumroad, find the licence key on your receipt. It looks
like
XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX. - In Spektra RF, click Activate licence… in the sidebar, paste the key, click Activate.
Activation makes one request to Gumroad to check the key, so it needs an internet connection for that moment. After that the app never contacts anything again — there is no periodic re-check, so an activated machine stays activated on a show network with no route out.
If the key is rejected, check that it is the Spektra RF key and not one for another Squaresmile product, and that you copied all four blocks.
Three computers
One key works on 3 computers.
To move it to a new machine, click Licence… → Forget this key on this computer on the old one first. That frees the slot.
If a key is already in use on three machines and one of them is gone — sold, stolen, wiped — write to support@squaresmile.de and we will free it.
Where your data lives
Everything Spektra RF knows stays on the computer it is running on: your equipment lists, saved scans, region, language and the licence record. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account inside the app.
That has a practical consequence: equipment lists and saved scans do not sync between your laptop and your desktop. Use Export to move them — see Export and import. Uninstalling the app keeps the data in your user folder, so reinstalling brings your lists back.
What talks to the network
Two things, both of which you control:
- The licence check when you activate, described above.
- The update check, which is off by default. Turn it on with Settings → Check automatically, or press Check for updates whenever you like. It reads one small version file and sends nothing about you.
Everything else — sweeping, the equipment library, the Advisor, every export — is local. There is no telemetry and no cloud.
Licences and source
The desktop app is a paid product under its own EULA. The scanning engine inside it is released under the GPL-3.0, and its source is downloadable from the product page. The EULA and the third-party notices are on the same page and inside the app under Licences & source.
Thanks for the feedback.
