Troubleshooting
Installer blocked, plugin missing in the host, a thin or mono sound, MIDI that does nothing — likely causes and fixes.
| Symptom | Likely cause & fix |
|---|---|
| macOS says the installer "cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it" | The installer is not signed with a developer certificate yet. macOS 15 or later: click Done, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to the WidthForge message. macOS 11–14: right-click the .pkg and choose Open. You do this once. |
| Windows says "Windows protected your PC" | SmartScreen. Click More info, then Run anyway. |
| WidthForge does not appear in Logic Pro | Open Logic Pro → Settings → Plug-in Manager and click Reset & Rescan Selection. Check that Audio Unit was selected under Customize in the installer. |
| WidthForge does not appear in another host | Rescan plugins. Check that the host scans the standard VST3 folder: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 on macOS, C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 on Windows. Look under the manufacturer Squaresmile. |
| There is no Audio Unit on Windows | Audio Unit is a macOS format. Windows gets VST3 and the standalone app. |
| It does not load in Pro Tools | There is no AAX build. |
| The sound is suddenly mono, thin or only one band | Look for the amber MONITORING banner: Solo, MONO, SIDE, DELTA or COMPARE is on. Switch back to STEREO and clear the solos. |
| DELTA is silent | Nothing is being changed — at neutral settings Delta is silent by design. |
| A band will not get any wider | Phase Guard is limiting it so it stays in phase; the band header shows how much. Turn Phase Guard off if you really want more. |
| A crossover pill has an amber outline | The value was limited so the crossovers stay in order. Move the neighbouring crossover first. |
| The lows sound diffuse after Stereoize | Raise FOCUS so less of the low end is widened. |
| Wider sounds louder | Turn on AUTO GAIN, and judge with COMPARE with MATCH on. |
| MIDI does nothing | In-plugin MIDI Learn needs MIDI routed to the plugin, and works in VST3 and the standalone app. In Logic Pro (Audio Unit), map controls with Controller Assignments. |
| The controller makes the value jump | Turn on Soft takeover in the MIDI menu. |
| My mappings are gone in a new session | Mappings are saved per session. Use MIDI → Save mappings as default to start every new instance with them. |
| Loading a preset turned off my solo or monitor mode | It does not: presets and A/B never change Solo, Monitor, Compare or Bypass. A reopened session always starts in normal listening. |
| I cannot find a licence key to enter | There is none. WidthForge is sold and delivered through Gumroad, with no activation and no platform step. |
| I need an update | 2.x updates are free and appear in your Gumroad library. |
